Psychodynamic Transactional Analysis

I practice Transactional Analysis within the tradition of Psychodynamic Psychotherapy.

Psychodynamic approaches to psychotherapy are often less concerned with symptoms and behaviour; the focus is directed upon underlying mental processes. Psychodynamic Transactional Analysis integrates the theoretical, and developmental, understandings of personality with the clinical techniques of Psychoanalysis and Transactional Analysis.

Such an approach to therapy, with its foundations in psychoanalysis and the work of Freud, has been developed by decades of work by analysts and psychotherapists. Some of these people include Klein, Tangolo, Winnicott, Moiso, Kernberg, and Novellino to name a few.

Psychotherapy is a long-term depth approach to talking therapy, it aims to not solely understand the complexity and development of personality but to aid structural change within the psyche.  The 'work' encompasses each and all components of your therapy, including the relationship with your psychotherapist.

Entering into psychotherapy is an important commitment, this means that sessions would be weekly, fifty minutes in length, and occur at the same time and day each week. Breaks or holidays will be structured and accounted for at suitable notice.

Couples, Group, & Family Counselling

When working with couples, groups, or families I draw upon Transactional Analysis and Group Analytic approaches.

Transactional Analysis provides a clear framework for effective communication, conflict resolution, personal responsibility, and self awareness. Eric Berne, the founder of transactional analysis, stated that the aim of treatment is autonomy. What this means is that one focus should be on developing the capacity for awareness, spontaneity, and intimacy for not solely oneself but also for the couple, family, or group.

At present (May 2024) I am not running a therapy group, please do get in touch if you are interested and I can let you know when I am putting a group together.
